Halfway through the year already, wow. Anyone else feel like we need some spare months to catch up?
Goodreads Reading Challenge
42 books in June is pretty good going! I’m up to 247 books this year, which means not long to go until 250, and I’m nearly 70% through my year’s challenge with half the year still to go.
My Owned TBR
My TBR is actually lower than last month, hurrah! When I wrote my last check-in post, it was at 562, and now it’s at 558! It seems like a small dip when I got so much reading done, but at least it’s downwards motion (though I have to say, the postman hasn’t come yet today!). I think this was helped a lot by my book buying ban, and also because I’m moving house in the first week of August, so I’ve been taking stock of all my books. It’s become a bit of a habit to pack a box, and then quickly read something that’s been hanging about to see if I want to bother packing it or not!
Book Buying Ban
In terms of the book buying ban I was on in June, I did fall off the wagon a couple of times, but only a couple! I picked up an ebook each from Erica Ridley and Darcy Burke in a sale, so 99p each, and I also ordered the Illumicrate Spin the Dawn box, because it comes with an enamel pin, and a woodmark, for little more than the cost of the hardback, and I know I’m going to love the book. But overall, I think to only have 3 books bought is pretty good going after the excesses of April and May! July includes YALC, which will definitely mean some purchases for me, so I’m going to try to keep it minimal until then, but not a strict ban. I miss going to the bookshop.
NetGalley
NetGalley’s shelf is currently sitting at 123 books, and I’m working up from the bottom this month, so knocking out the ones that have been sitting there the longest. I’ve already taken out my oldest two in June, so I’m going to keep working on this! I just haven’t been in the mood for ebooks lately, but I know I need to press on. I submitted 14 reviews in June, and was approved for 17 – I’m getting a lot better at not browsing the new titles!
Blog Tours
I am on quite a few tours this month! Some of these I’ve been waiting ages to talk about, so I’m excited!
11th – The Kingdom by Jess Rothenberg
15th – I Will Follow Him by Holly Tierney-Bedford
22nd – Rage of Dragons by Evan Winter
24th – Girls of Paper and Fire by Natasha Ngan (paperback release tour!)
26th – Lord of Secrets by Breanna Teintze
31st – Reclaimed by Her Rebel Knight – Jenni Fletcher
The TBR
As I mentioned above, I’m focusing on ebooks at the moment, to try to clear some of my overdue NetGalley books. I’d particularly like to catch up on the Wicked Dukes Club series, as I have copies of all of them, and adored the first!
I’m also going to give myself a pretty loose rein to pick whatever takes my fancy of my physical books as I’m packing – the more I read and decide not to keep, the fewer I have to move… I’m also continuing to try to read my borrowed books so they can be returned promptly.
Wish me luck!
You have done amazingly with your yearly challenge, and with tackling your TBR of already owned books. I am in awe!

Wow great work… I didn’t have the courage to keep target beyond 200. Maybe next year. So happy you are more than halfway in

Thanks Shalini! 😀 Whatever works for you is good – maybe if you do hit 200, you can increase it then!

A very fast reading speed and very few other hobbies, haha!

My goal this year was 125 and I’m over halfway there without even trying which pleases me. The cold Winters and rainy Spring sure helps!

That is alot of books, but you seem to do just fine on that, i am sure you are going to manage. maybe over your goal also!

That would be brilliant, but I don’t know if I can maintain this speed for the rest of the year!

I have never read that many books in a month! That’s more than a book a day. I can’t even imagine it. You are a reading machine!

About 200 pages an hour! It’s a weird skill, but a handy one 🙂

A bit of both! I’ve always read fast, but it’s only in the last few years that it’s gone from 100 pages an hour to 200. That’s practice, and a whole lot of pressure from how fast I buy books! 😛

honestly, it’s just unreal for me 😮 i wish i could pull that off, what with the speed of adding books to my tbr……………..

I don’t know what’s impressed me more: That you’re already nearly 70% through your goal, or that you’ve already read 247 books! I am in AWE!
And I’m trying to clear up my backlist NetGalley titles as well! I don’t have quite as many in that category, but the ones that I do are already several years old!
I hope you have fun at YALC!

Ooh, good luck with the NetGalley! Sometimes I wish it was more like a library card, where you can only have a certain number out at a time… That would stop me requesting hundreds!
