I adore Halloween, especially when it falls the cute side of spooky, so this activity book from Nosy Crow sounded like a great idea!
Book: Press Out and Decorate Halloween by Kate McLelland
Read before: It’s not that sort of book!

This book is not for reading – rather, it’s full of adorable illustrations for you to colour in, press out, and use to decorate your house for Halloween! It would make a great activity with a little one, as the lines are nice and chunky, and the pieces are easy to pop out of the book – no scissors required. I might be 27, but I actually coloured this in with my dad and we both had a laugh, so it definitely works for all ages! I did the witch, the small bat, and the big owl, and he did the rest, if you want to compare our colouring-in skills…
Some of the designs need a little more colour than others, as there’s not a lot you need to do to a ghost or a skeleton to get them looking festive, but that doesn’t mean they’re boring, as each illustration is lined with a gorgeous purple foil that catches the light and makes these feel really special. They’re on chunky cardstock, too, which should be easy for little hands, though they may need a bit of help stringing them as I kept dropping one end!
All in all, I think this would be a lovely gift to receive, or a really nice activity to do with little ones over the half term break to get them in the spooky mood. It’s a lot of fun, and the garland it makes is adorable! I won’t use my usual rating scheme, as that’s more for stories than activity books like this, but this is definitely brilliant!
