Author's Note

This Week’s New Books!

I’ve been thinking about how better to keep a track of books coming in as well as books I’m reading, and since I often have more than 50 in a month, an end-of-month haul is going to be way too much effort for everyone involved! So I thought I might try a weekly haul instead and see how that goes – I’ll list things as they arrive, rather than as I buy them, which is how I log them on my TBR. Let me know what you think!

ARCs and review copies

All books in this category were provided free of charge by authors or publishers.

The Gentle Art of Fortune Hunting by KJ Charles

I adore KJ Charles’s smart, dark, and queer historical romance, and I’m excited for this standalone! She says it’s fairly fluffy for her, which is exactly what I’m in the mood for, so I think I’ll get to this soon.

The Duke’s Runaway Bride by Jenni Fletcher

You know by now I’ll read anything Jenni writes, and I can’t wait to dip into book three of her Regency Belles of Bath series – books one and two were in my top reads of 2020!

Clifftoppers: The Frost Castle Adventure by Fleur Hitchcock

This modern-day-Famous-Five-ish mystery series is brilliant, and The Frost Castle Adventure is book four – I seem to have missed book three, but you can see what I thought of book one here and book two here!

The Unbroken by CL Clark

This chunky fantasy debut was a surprise when it showed up, but it sounds like it’s going to be a huge hit – it’s been blurbed by some of my favourite fantasy authors so I’m expecting good things.

Freebies

The Promise of a Kiss by KC Bateman

This Egypt-set romance novella says it has an Indiana Jones inspired hero, which is always something I’m willing to give a go! I picked this up as a gift for joining Kate/KC Bateman’s newsletter.

Wicked Wyckerly by Patricia Rice

This was a Christmas gift for Patricia Rice’s newsletter subscribers – she’s super generous with the freebies so this joins a long list of her books on my TBR. It looks great though!

The Governess Gambit by Erica Ridley

This is a prequel to The Wicked Wynchesters series, which starts with the very fun The Duke Heist (my review of that is here). I’m hoping it’ll be just as fun! I had a heads up from Erica’s newsletter but this is currently free for everyone!

Purchased by me

The Element of Fire and The Death of the Necromancer by Martha Wells

I saw on Twitter that Martha Wells was having issues with people putting up pirated Kindle copies of The Element of Fire on Amazon, and both of these books had been on my list for ages, so I thought now was a good time to pick up the legitimate copies and support her! These look like exactly the kind of court fantasy I love.

At the Gates by Patrick Samphire

I had this on preorder because I’ve loved everything I’ve read by Patrick so far! This is a collection of short stories and I’m looking forward to dipping in and out of it.

Courting Magic by Stephanie Burgis

This novella is a companion to the Kat, Incorrigible series – I reviewed the first book in this great middle grade Regency fantasy series here. Courting Magic features a grown up Kat getting to have a romance of her own – I have read this before, but it only just became available in paperback, and I wanted a physical copy to go with my set of the original books!

The Wallflower Wager by Tessa Dare

Another book I’ve read before as an ebook that I wanted to own in paperback – I reviewed it here. I love Tessa’s American covers so much more than the UK ones, so I’m slowly tracking down secondhand copies in decent condition!

So 12 books in, of which 10 are going on the TBR – and I only read 5 this week, so I need to get moving to balance them out! Have you read any of these? Let me know what I should get to first!
