So it’s the end of the month already, and I’ve actually finished my whole October TBR! If you want a reminder of what was the list, you can find my original post here, but here are my thoughts on the final three books!

First up was The League of Gentlewomen Witches by India Holton, which was just as fun as the first book in the series! This is a rather madcap magical Regency romp, with witches, pirates, flying houses and bicycles, and a hefty dose of annoyances-to-lovers and bicker-flirting. Pure fun – you have to read them with your tongue firmly in your cheek, but the romance is very cute and the literary references are very funny.
After that I buddy read Witchstorm by Tim Tilley with my friend Amy from Golden Books Girl. This was a sweet and action-packed adventure with some very cool storm magic and lovely themes of friendship and environmentalism, but for some reason I found it a little bit underwhelming as a whole. I think maybe I didn’t quite connect with the main character, Will, who was a bit too sweet? I think it’s well worth a look if you’re a fan of the genre, but it just missed out on becoming a favourite for me.
And finally, I read The Ruthless Lady’s Guide to Wizardry by CM Waggoner, which was 100% my cup of tea. I loved this so much – it’s funny and dark and weird and sweary and full of adventure and sarcasm and sapphic romance. It reminded me a little of T Kingfisher’s stuff, that kind of off-beat fantasy with a capable heroine and a lot of upended tropes. It did take me a little while to get into, as the writing style is pretty unique, but once things kicked off properly it was just a really, really good time!
