Review: Kingdoms of Elfin

This book is like nothing I have ever read before. It’s scholarly, lush, poetic, and full of magic. Handheld Press were kind enough to send me an advance copy of this beautiful reprint of Sylvia Townsend Warner’s short stories, Kingdoms of Elfin, and it turned out to be one of the most breathtaking and magical reads of the year.

Blog Tour: Three Bloody Pieces

thumbnail_Three Bloody Pieces

I’m really excited to be part of the blog tour for Three Bloody Pieces, because I’ve never read a historical novel set in this time period, and also, books about witches and cats are so rare in adult fiction! This is an excellent read with lots of complex women and adventure, and you get a fascinating glimpse into history as well.

Review: My Lady Jane

Lady Jane Grey, the girl who was queen for nine days before being beheaded as a traitor, doesn’t instantly strike me as the ideal subject for a teen comedy. She was sent to her death by the political machinations of the Tudor court – what’s funny about that? But I have to hand it to the Lady Janies, this alternate history manages to create a situation where the wit sparkles, the magic abounds, and the ending is much, much happier. It’s silly and fun and modern and glorious!
