Blog Tour: Master Artificer by Justin Call

You might be wondering what’s going, on, since I already raved to you about how much I loved this book back in February. But today I’m excited to be helping my pal Nikki at Books and Lemon Squash wrap up the blog tour to celebrate the UK publication of Master Artificer!

And just look at that beautiful cover!! This series has some seriously amazing design going on – the foil is so lovely! This finished copy was sent to me by Gollancz for the blog tour, and it’s huge in person (far bigger than it felt reading the ebook!).

As I mentioned above, I reviewed Master Artificer back in February, because Justin was kind enough to let me read an extra-early ARC! This series is fun, exciting coming-of-age fantasy that really plays with traditional fantasy tropes: from the chosen one to the magic academy, this book may seem like a familiar story, but it twists and turns everything into something really fresh and clever – and dark! What I have for you today is a little extra treat on top of my review. I thought about asking Justin to do an interview with me, but as we chatted, we actually ended up talking way more about the concept of interviews, and how they can not only benefit readers by revealing the answers to things we want to know, but can also benefit authors… and so, I present to you a meta-interview! (Oh, and he did end up answering one very vital question for me, so make sure you read to the end for that!)

Review: Voidbreaker

I’m sad to see the end of this fabulous trilogy, but Voidbreaker offers a thrilling and satisfying conclusion that has cemented The Keepers series as a new favourite for me!

Review: Soulkeeper

I’m always in the mood for interesting new fantasy, but somehow I missed Soulkeeper when it first came out. With the sequel, Ravencaller, just out in March, Orbit were kind enough to send me over copies of both so I could catch up – and I’m glad they did, because Soulkeeper is a huge amount of fun!

Review: The Last Smile in Sunder City

The term ‘most anticipated book of the year’ gets thrown around a lot in book blogging (I do it too, I know!) but I have genuinely been on the edge of my seat to read this since the announcement that it had been picked up – and it’s not even out until February 2020! The Last Smile in Sunder City is the debut novel by Luke Arnold, who just so happens to play my favourite character in one of my favourite shows, Black Sails (which you should totally watch). Great acting doesn’t necessarily mean great writing, so I was apprehensive, but wow, was this man blessed when they handed out creativity, because this book is absolutely PHENOMENAL.

I saw The Gutter Prayer being hyped as the big fantasy release for 2019, so I used my magic powers (Tomte pictures) to talk my way into a proof to read. I’m so glad I got to read this early, as I think it’s really something special. Weird, but special.
